Background

Based on insights gathered from a recent research project, a handful of updates were being made to the software product and the software services that the company provided. This project was one part of a bigger update. There were many moving pieces and many stakeholders involved. We needed to make sure we were all building towards the same end goal. From Product to Engineering to Professional Services, we all were a part of the input and outcome of the project.

This new feature planned to provide customers with a new template and a trusted data set for a commonly needed item. The idea of getting a template from the system was a new concept. The idea of the system automatically providing a pre-filled data set was a new concept.

The high-level solution was determined at an executive level. Our team explored and defined the new customer experience within the direction provided. This would effect the user interface and some existing primary user paths. We had recently implemented a user assistance add-on, WalkMe, and planned to utilize it as part of our new experience.

Ideation

I lead meetings using system-actor flow diagrams to explore and communicate the possible user paths, systems affected, and front-end/back-end capabilities needed. We also used these diagrams to assist with building out the flows for the user assistance software.

I created a storyboard and presentation deck to quickly and visually communicate the product direction and intended outcomes to help ensure stakeholder and team alignment. This storyboard helped aligned teams without getting too bogged down in the details.

Results

This project was considered a success. The discovery work performed helped align the team in a complicated space.
